A while ago one of my good friends told me that he was thinking of moving home. I have known Tom for about 20 years and he has a couple of young children. He told me that he was planning on designing his own home, he had already hired an architect to look into some ideas for the plans for his home. Although Tom is a good friend when he gets an idea in his head it just drives me mad he is a very forward and outgoing type of person and when he decides on something he just simply will not let go and wants to know everything there is about, I’m sure you’ve met the type of person once they pick a topic they want to become experts in its. So much so that he was annoying the architect has so much they had a little bit of a disagreement and the architect decided not to do the project. This is when Tom told me about what he was planning.

One of the first things I suggested was that in this current economic climate is was not cheap to or an architect although many of these are now looking for work I suggested that he should look online for some pre drawn houseplans as the pricing is more competitive and he should be able to fines something that would possibly suit 90% of his needs and then just make some small modifications for one or two ideas that he already had.

To be honest, kind of like retrofit houseplans it’s the kind of style that he is into both must something his wife would even consider. One of the days he called over to my house and had about 10 ideas floating around his head from Japanese style homes to a home that looked like something from the 1920s. To be honest I think he’s a bit of a crazy guy but that’s the kind of thing I like about him. So, finally he decided Om what he wanted and he found a website online that sold a plan that was about 90% perfect this is exactly what I told him once he got his hands on the blueprints he could then hire another architect to make this slight modifications – which is exactly what he did.

The key to any project like this is to know exactly what you want from the beginning, I think another key aspect is to make sure that you have a professional architect on board as soon as possible because although they charge a fee there can be significant savings made if you have the correct person to help. So if there is one little take away from this article it should be like you must have a complete understanding of your project from the outset the more you know and understand it means that you can have a grasp of what needs to be done and understand your vote is for a project. I think as I said already another key aspect of any project is to make sure that you are a professional architect to give you advice, yes they do charge a fee, yes they can be expensive, and yes they can save you money in the long run making sure that their project gets off the ground with a clear understanding that builders will understand your houseplans and that you will not be making any modifications at a later stage.
