It’s a sunny day today and as it’s almost the weekend I’m thinking of taking a trip to the our log cabin. We’ve had this place for a couple of years now and it’s great just to take a weekend break every now and again and try and get away from the rat race. When we first purchased the place is actually needed a little bit of work and I basically took two weeks break from my day-to-day job and decides to spend that time at the cabin getting everything in order.

To be honest I think at the time we got a bit of a bargain because the previous owner had run into some financial difficulties and just needed to get cash quickly. Thinking quick on my feet and made an offer a little bit less than what he wanted and to my surprise it was accepted. After the sale of the home was finalized at the or break to go up there and spend two weeks getting everything to rave about myself and Mary wanted.

Whilst I was on one of my trips before the purchase I actually took lots of photographs and also wrote down a quick checklist of things that needed to be done. This came in very handy as I was able to purchase everything I needed for are new vacation home locally instead of having to purchase everything where are cabin is located as pricing is just a little bit expensive. This is the kind of thing that you need to do if you are doing something similar make sure you have your photographs and checklist and just visit your local DIY store where you know you will be able to get things got better value.

The two-week vacation, if that’s what you want to call it as it was actually hard work but seemed to fly along and I only had to take one trip to the local DIY store to pick something up and by the way I was actually correct pricing was about 20% more expensive for some of the items that I had previously purchased.

So I guess the one little tip if you are going to purchase a vacation home whether it’s a log cabin in the mountains, or if it’s a mansion or just a small self-sufficient home in a sunny location just make sure it is in a holiday area that you bring as much which you as possible if it is a little bit of a fixer upper – you will save money if you go to your hometown DIY store as pricing tends to be a little bit more expensive in any holiday area.
